Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that the encounter at Halmatpora Kupwara is at controlling stage and the  searches are underway at some places.

“Operation is at controlling stage, searches are underway at some places. We have recovered arms & ammunition in large quantity” IGP  Kashmir SP Pani said.

Pertinently,  five security forces’ personnel, including three Army men, have been killed in the encounter in the dense forests of the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir so far, officials said.

Five militants believed to be foreigners and part of a freshly infiltrated group have also been killed in the encounter between militants and security forces that has been going on since Tuesday.

“We have recovered arms & ammunition in large quantity, all those killed are foreign militants . Prima facie it appears they are related to Lashkar-e-Taiba” Pani said.

Pertinently, the encounter started when a group of militants believed to be seven in number fired upon a joint team of army and SOG at Check Fatehkhan forests.

The army has also rushed Para commandos to the area Tuesday evening.
