Teachers averse to work in schools, seek solace in administrative offices

Srinagar: There seems to be no implementation of government orders directing Chief Education Officers (CEO’s) and Zonal Education Officers (ZEO’s) to relieve the teachers who have been working in their offices.

The directorate of school education has number of times issues circulars wherein it directed the CEO’s and ZEO’s to relieve the teachers, however, the teaching staff continues  to enjoy their stint in the offices, exposing the poor implementation of the government orders.

The official figures which are in possession of this newspaper reveal that teachers are still on deputation in office of Chief Education Officer, Bandipora.

The pay centre office (PCO) of the Ahargam zone in Bandipora had sought the staff statement and enrollment of the students in the school. As per the staff statement of schools it was revealed that teachers are still on deployment in CEO office.

“A teacher from Boys Primary School (BPS) is on deployment with CEO office. His present place of posting is in BPS Ahargam,” the statement reveals.

Similarly, a teacher from Upper Primary School Gujarpati in Ahargam zone is on deployment with ZEO office Bandipora. A teacher from government school Gundqasir is on deployment in ZEO office Ahargam, the statement reveals.

There are other schools in Tulmulla zone of Ganderbal district where teachers are enjoying prolonged stint in CEO and ZEO offices while as schools crave for the teaching staff.

“None of the teachers were relieved from CEO and ZEO offices despite orders issued from directorate of school education. The officers are reluctant to relive them,” an official, wishing not to be named, said.

Similar complaints were received from other districts. According to sources, the CEO’s have issued relieving orders of some teachers however, he has retained them in office on verbal directions.

“They have produced the relieving orders before the director school education but all these teachers are working in offices on verbal directions,” sources said.

Director school education Kashmir, G N Itoo when contacted said they have given clear cut direction to the CEO’s and ZEO’s to relieve all the teaching staff from their offices and post them in their respective schools.

“But we have also received complaints that some teachers are still working in these offices. We will take up the matter with administrative department  and strict action will be taken against the erring officers,” he said.
