Amid sobs, Anantnag bids adieu to slain Owais

Srinagar: Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of slain militant, Syed Owais in Guhnoo Vailoo Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag and was laid to rest amid sobs and wails.

Despite restrictions, men and women in large numbers thronged the native village of Owais.

“Six rounds of funeral prayers were offered to Owais before he was laid to rest in his native village,” eyewitnesses said.

As the news about his death spread, huge crowds gathered from outside his home at Vailoo.

As soon as his body reached home, women burst in tears while men chanted pro-freedom and pro freedom slogans while carrying his body.

Meanwhile massive clashes erupted in the  Vailoo area between civilians and the government forces.

The troopers fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the stone throwing youth, a local said.

At least four people were injured after being hit with pellets fired by government forces.

Pertinently, three militants were killed in a brief shootout with government forces in Hakura village of South Kashmir on Monday.
