Sopore: The absence of basic facilities including drinking water and lack of proper sanitation, at Railway station Sopore has come under severe criticism with the passengers, appealing higher ups to redress their grievances at an earliest.

The passengers while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that that lack of basic facilities, at Sopore railway station has resulted in immense hardships to them.

“We are being forced to drink contaminated water, use stinking toilets and sit on the floor due to the shortage of proper sitting arrangements,” the passengers rued. They alleged that the railway station does not have any separate toilets for women.

Javid Ahmad, a regular passenger said that the passengers brought such issues into to the notice of the concerned authorities several times but unfortunately they didn’t even bother to take steps in this regard.

He said that the street dogs can be seen roaming the platforms throughout the day.

Other travelers said the tall claims of the authorities over railway stations proved hoax on the ground.

“The authorities should take measures to improve the condition of Sopore railway station and facilitate the passengers,” they said.

Meanwhile, officials in the railway said that it’s responsibility of all to make the surroundings neat and clean.

They also rued the lack of cooperation from the general public.

They however said that “we will look into the matter and will make basic facilities available.
