Theft case solved, property worth lakhs recovered: Police

KUPWARA: Police on Friday claimed to have solved a burglary case, and recovered property worth 21 lacs from outside state.

“On 02-01-2018 Police Station Sogam received a written application from Showkat Ahmad Mir S/O Mohd Amin Mir R/O Gulgam Kupwara stating therein that during intervening night of 20/21-02-2018, two persons namely Mohd Akbar Sofi S/O Yalfaan Sofi and Dineshwar Kumar S/O Ram Das Kumar both residents of village Sitapur District Supaul Bihar decamped DG Track System worth almost Rs 21 Lacs from Doniwari Lolab” a police official said.

“On this information FIR No. 01/2018 u/s 457, 380 RPC was registered in PS Sogam and investigation set into motion and a SIT headed by Shri Adil Rishu DySP SHO PS Sogam was constituted under the supervision DySP Lolab Shri Sarfaraz Bashir” police added.

 Consequently, the team raided different locations in the state and rounded-up many suspects. Based on some leads a team was deputed to Bihar. The team with the help of Bihar Police has questioned some suspects who were working in Lolab area as labourers. The theft case was solved after arrest of main accused namely Mohd Akbar Sofi S/O Yalfaan Sofi R/o Village Sitapur District Supaul Bihar who has confessed his involvement in the case” police said.

“On the disclosure of accused the stolen property which include different items of Digital Acoustic Sensor System used for laying optical fiber cables worth Rs 21 Lacs was recovered from different locations of District Supaul of Bihar. The other accused is still absconding and efforts are being made for his arrest.” police added.
