Militant killed in Hajin gunfight; internet suspended

Hajjn: A militant has been killed in an encounter with government forces at Hajjin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday morning.

Reports said that a joint team of army’s 13 RR and SOG Bandipora laid a siege to Sukur-din-Mohalla Hajin today wee hours following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.

Soon after the joint team intensified the searches and opened some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

During the gunfight, a militant has been killed while two others have managed to escape, sources said.

The body of militant has been recovered and identity is being ascertained, said an official.

Reportedly militant killed is believed to be part of  Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit.

Following clashes between civilians and goverment forces near the encounter site, operation has been called off to prevent any law and order situation, the official said.

Meanwhile Internet services have been suspended in the area as a precautionary measure.

Pertinently, two days  before a foreign militant was also killed in a brief exchange of fire in Hajjin village. He was later buried in the local graveyard in Hajjin.
