Shopian: A 10 year old boy, Musharaf Fayaz son of Fayaz Ahmad Najar who was injured while clearing debris from encounter site at Chaigund village on January 25 succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning after battling for life for about one week at intensive care unit (ICU) of SKIMS Soura.

Mohammad Maqbool, a close relative of the boy said that Musharaf’s condition showed no improvement from the day he was admitted in ICU at SKIMS.

“From day one he was in a serious condition as he had suffered grievous injuries and finally in the wee hours of Thursday he succumbed. We shifted his body early morning at around 7.30 Pm to his native place,” he said.

Locals said that Musharaf was the lone son of Fayaz Ahmad Najar, a carpenter by profession. Fayaz is a labourer as he owns no land or has no other source of income.

Besides, Musharaf Fayaz is the father of two girls identified as Mehwish and Muskan, both students of 8th and 3rd standard.

Musharaf had gone to the encounter site alongwith some locals who started clearing the debris of a cowshed that was razed to ground during the encounter. However, an unexploded shell went off resulting in injuries to the minor, locals said.

They added that he was immediately shifted to the district hospital Pulwama from where he was reffered to SKIMS Soura.

Pertinently, two locals militants and a lone bread earner for his family Shakir Ahmad were killed during encounter in Chaigund village of South Kashmirs Shopian on January 24 eafternoon.

Three civilians Suhail Javid Lone  of Ganowpora, Javid Ahmad Bhat of Balpora and Rayees Ahmad Ganaie of Narpora were killed after army opened fire on them in Ganowpora village of District on January 27.

Meanwhile thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the slain boy Musharaf Fayaz at his native village Datmudoor.

Sources said that at least two back-to-back funeral prayers were held to accommodate the heavy rush of people.

They added that he was laid to rest amid pro freedom and pro Islamic Slogans.

Meanwhile, the Shopian and Pulwama districts observed complete shutdown for the 8th consecutive day on Thursday.

All shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed in these districts while as transport was also off the roads.

Mobile Internet service in Pulwama and Shopian districts continues to remain suspended for the ninth consecutive day.
