Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmad Gurezi Monday asked the state government to conduct an enquiry into the purported wrong information provided to the members in reply to different Cut Motions.
The Deputy Speaker issued the instruction after National Conference MLA Altaf Kaloo raised the issue during a discussion on the Demand for Grants of the Public Works Department.
He said the Roads and Buildings Department had quoted varying figures on the same issue in response to Cut Motions raised by party legislators Mubarak Gul and Abdul Majid Bhat Larmi.
The legislators demanded action against the officials responsible for allegedly providing wrong figures.
Notably, the figures shown by the government were contradicted by NC MLA Altaf Kaloo representing Pahalgam assembly constituency who alleged discrimination in the macadamisation work in different constituencies of Kashmir valley.
Kaloo alleged that macadamisation work was undertaken in constituencies represented by of PDP while as constituencies represented by the opposition MLAs were ignored.
After leader of the opposition and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah countered the explanations offered by the parliamentary affairs minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and R&B Minister Nayeem Akhter, the R&B minister in the end admitted errors in the figures given by the government following which Deputy Speaker Assembly Nazir Gurezi directed the government to take stringent action against the officer responsible for indicating incorrect figures about the macadamisation work in Kashmir valley.
