Opposition targets govt for making ‘political’ appointments

Jammu: The opposition Congress MLA from Bandipora district in north Kashmir on Tuesday slammed the government for resorting to ‘political appointments’.

Speaking during the discussion on Budget 2018-19, MLA Bandipora Usman Majeed told the House that the present government has made “unnecessary” appointments of heads of the “sick and defunct” corporations.

“You have created an army of vice-chairmen, analysts, strategists and commissioners. You have put an additional burden on these corporations by appointing your workers as vice chairmen,” accused the Congress MLA.

Senior NC leader, Mian Altaf castigated the government that peace was paramount for the resolution of Kashmir and development of the state will be carried forward only if peace returns to Valley.

“Unless peace is there in Kashmir, nothing can bring change in the state. We cannot implement any development schemes and programmes,” he said.

He said the government has failed to make PHE schemes functional and same was the case with schemes and projects of Irrigation department.

He slammed government for its failure to utilize funds under PM’s package. “The project was given a huge hype in media but it was just to befool the people of the state,” he said.

He said the government has failed to clear its liabilities saying that people who worked in Amarnath yatra last year are yet to get their money.
