MMSM Gold Cup Phase II: Ali Sports Hajin, Ferrari Lions Ganderbal, Iqra FC Dachigam emerge victorious

 

Srinagar: Three knockout matches of second phase of first Mufti Mohammad Syed Memorial Gold Cup League Football Tournament-2017 were played at Synthetic Turf TRC in Srinagar on December 27.

The second phase of the event which started on December 22, is going on at full swing. In the first match of the day, Ali Sports Hajin, Bandipora defeated IFC Nowgam by two goals to one. In the closely contested match, both the teams missed several scoring opportunities. However, compared to IFC Nowgam, Hajin team made lesser mistakes and were the eventual winners.

Throughout the first half, the defence lines of both the teams had to keep the forward lines at bay. The Hajin team played aggressive football throughout the match and were rewarded for that. Danish of Hajin team played exceptionally well and the defenders of IFC Nowgam were helpless before him. He scored the first goal for Hajin team in the first half and doubled the lead in second half. For IFC Nowgam, Wasim Raja scored the lone goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, the scoreline read 1-0 in favour of Hajin team.

As the match was played in the morning session, the chilly winds blowing across the ground, didn’t stop the two teams from playing attacking football which delighted the spectators, who braving the extreme cold had thronged the venue in huge numbers.

In the second match of the day, Ferrari Lions Ganderbal thrashed United FC Lolab Kupwara by four goals to nil. The quality and the speed of the football displayed by Ganderbal boys enthralled large number of fans. Javeed Ahmad scored two goals for the winning team while Firdous Ahmad and Hilal Ahmad scored one goal each.

In the third match of the day, Iqra FC Dachigam, Bandipora defeated JFC Junior Pattan, Baramulla by 4-1. For the winning team, Sameer scored two goals while Mohsin and Shakir scored one goal each. Umar scored the lone goal for Pattan team.
