Shopian gunfight: Woman killed after hit by bullet

Pulwama: A 24 year old woman was killed and nine others sustained injuries during clashes that erupted after killing of two militants at Batmuran village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

The deceased identified as  Rubi Jan Alias Beauty W/o Mansoor Ahmad Mir, sustained bullet wounds in her abdomen and was immediately rushed to District Hospital Pulwama. However doctors declared her brought dead.

Nine other people according to sources sustained injuries during clashes near encounter site.

Pertinently intense clashed had erupted after the youth hit the streets and started pelting stones on the government forces to disrupt the anti-militancy  operation in Wanpora, Batamarun where encounter started on Monday evening which was retaliated by forces by using tear smoke shells, pellets and bullets to disperse the protesters.

Consequently, dozens of protesters including Beauty Jan received bullet injury while another protester namely Imran Ahmed resident of Bellov Pulwama received severe pellet injuries.

The injured were shifted to District Hospital Pulwama where doctors declared Beauty Jan brought dead while Imran is said to be in a critical condition.

Meanwhile two militants including a local Jaish militant have been killed in the gunfight so far and their bodies along with as many AK rifles have been recovered from the encounter site.
