War-like situation to foil public rally is acceptance of defeat: Geelani

Srinagar: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Saturday slammed the state administration for caging people and the leadership.
Geelani said that the public rally supposed to be held at LalChowk, Islamabad was organized to send a message to occupational forces that despite all state sponsored force, they can’t face leadership and people on political turf.
“Their tall claims about freedom of expression stand exposed as they didn’t dare to face pro-freedom leadership and resorted to vandalism, arresting leadership, imposing restrictions and bullying,” he said.
He said the “government’s actions are hooliganism and worst kind of state terrorism” and added that war-like situation, curfew and detention of hundreds of pro-freedom leaders, activists and youths to foil peaceful public rally as acceptance of defeat by the rulers and their local agents.
Geelani said that the proposed “Public rally’’ was a peaceful program and referendum to send a message to international community that the basic problem in Kashmir is the illegal and forced military occupation of India and it is this military power which India is using to suppress the peaceful and genuine voices of the Kashmiri people. “but the government used its state power and military might and converted the entire Kashmir valley into a battle field, added Geelani.
Geelani ridiculed authorities for turning entire Anantnag town and Srinagar into a battle field and said that even Masjids were locked and people were barred from offering congregational prayers.
Lashing at authorities for their totalitarian attitude, Geelani said that the blockades, razor wires and impediments were put into forces to thwart proposed rally, however it simply exposed their tall claims about transparency and their rhetoric regarding democracy were deflated.
Geelani said that the government’s curbs on movement of people “fully exposed the democratic claims of India” and “authenticated that they lost this battle even before it could have started.”
“This is the worst arrogance of power which India and its stooges are displaying in Jammu and Kashmir,” Geelani said, adding that till the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not given their right to self-determination which has been promised to them by the Indian leadership and the world community, we will pursue our cherished mission.
