Snowfall mesmerizes young and old: People express jubilations through social media

Srinagar: As the residents living in plains received season’s first snowfall on Tuesday, the celebrations were galore across the Valley. Although the higher reaches of the valley, including the ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, received snow a day earlier, the plains were blessed on Monday night where the residents woke up ecstatic seeing the city completely wrapped in white.

Jubilant youth and children of Kashmir valley were seen busy in making ‘snowmen’ in different localities. The social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter were flooded with snowfall pictures. The falling snow was live streamed widely on social networking sites. The social media feeds were full of folks sledding down snowy slopes and kids trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues.

Many were seen enjoying the heavy snowfall making ‘snowman’ and playing snowball fights. Others remained home, watching big white flakes dancing through the air before gently fluttering to the ground. Many posted photos of the snow, each seeming to enjoy the wintery weather.

Pictures shared by netizens showed rooftops and roads covered in snow adding to scenic beauty of the valley.

An ecstatic Sami Bilal, a facebooker posted a video on Facebook while the snowflakes were dancing down, and he could be seen enjoying the soundless falling of snowflakes while they were gently kissing his face.

Muhammad Yaseen posted a mesmerizing picture of snow covered pine trees captioned; “The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event, heavy snow fall in Gulmarg. Wah what a scene around me!”

A tourist, Singhal Shyam, from Delhi posted a series of pictures with his wife, the awe and jubilation visible on his face knew no bounds.

A large number of citizens thronged Gulmarg to enjoy the pleasant weather. “We really enjoy snowfall here in Gulmarg”, Muhammad Akram, a local, told ‘Kashmir vision.’

Former CM Omar Abdullah also posted a video on Tweeter to  express his jubilation over the fresh snowfall.

“Woke up earlier this morning to a city with a light dusting of snow. Nau Sheen Mubarak #Srinagar #snowfall), ” Omar tweeted.

Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department on their Official twitter account @JandKTourism posted a breathtaking picture of the Kashmir University campus in Srinagar captioned;  “Kashmir University campus draped in snow.”  #JKTourism.

Another netizen Javid Trali @Traluk , posted a mesmerizing picture on tweeter  “Well, you have to be in Gulmarg—a known ski resort in India —to experience & feel the spectacular & mesmerising settings that the place offers during winters! #Kashmir “, Javid Trali tweeted.
