Jammu-Srinagar National highway closed for traffic

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic due to snowfall across Jawahar tunnel; landslides and shooting stones at different places, an official from Traffic said on Tuesday.

Pertinently Snowfall and heavy rain across Jammu and Kashmir ended a month-long dry spell in the state on Monday.

Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, recorded about 2 feet of fresh snowfall.

Pertinently in southern Kashmir areas including Kokernag recorded 4 inch of snow, Larnoo 5 inch, Pahalgam 7 inch, Achabal  3 inch, Jt/DH Pora 8 inch, Kund Qazigund 4 inch,  Pulwama 3 inch,  Sangarbani 6 inch,   Heerpora 10 inch,  Kellar 6 inch and Tral recorded 1, 1/2  inch of snow.

All the major roads connecting valley within and outside with the rest of India are closed due to snowfall.

National Highway/ Mughal road closed has also been closed for traffic.

Srinagar-Kargil road connecting valley with Ladakh is also closed for traffic.

The roads connecting valley within have  also been closed following heavy snowfall.

Roads connecting Bandipora and Gurez, Kupwara and Machil, Kupwara and Karnah, Kupwara and Keran are all closed for traffic.
