Police intensify drive to eradicate narcotics under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan

SRINAGAR: Continuing its unwavering commitment to a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K Police has launched a series of successful operations targeting illicit narcotics and cultivation activities across the region under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.”
In Ganderbal, police personnel during routine patrols identified and destroyed a patch of illicit poppy cultivation in the Gund area. A case (FIR No. 15/2026) has been registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway to identify those involved.
Similarly, in Anantnag’s Kokernag area, police, in joint efforts with the Agriculture Department, FSL team, and Revenue officials, destroyed approximately two marlas of illegal opium poppy crop at Lohar Senzi, Gadol. Samples were collected for forensic analysis, and a case (FIR No. 62/2026) has been registered. Authorities continue to appeal to the public for cooperation and information sharing to curb narcotics cultivation.
In Ganderbal, police arrested Salim Ahmad Bhat during routine naka checks at Puttarmulla Safapora. From his possession, approximately 4 grams of heroin and 20 grams of charas were recovered, leading to FIR No. 11/2026.
In Handwara, Dawood Ahmad Dar was apprehended during a naka operation at Turkpora Zachaldara. A contraband substance identified as Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus was recovered, and FIR No. 115/2026 has been registered against him.
In another operation, police intercepted Aubaid Ahmad Dar in Tulmullah, Kheerbhawani, and recovered over 11 grams of heroin. FIR No. 16/2026 has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
In Sopore, police intensified inspections of medical and chemist shops as part of the 100-day campaign. Authorities scrutinized sale records of psychotropic substances and medicines like codeine syrups, alprazolam, and tramadol, ensuring compliance with legal provisions. Shopkeepers were briefed on regulations, and public awareness campaigns were conducted to highlight the dangers of drug abuse.
In Shopian’s Chowan Keller area, police acting on intelligence destroyed illegal poppy cultivation on land owned by Bashir Ahmad Parray. A case (FIR No. 55/2026) has been registered, emphasizing the ongoing crackdown on narcotics.
The police reiterated that these operations are part of a sustained effort to make Jammu and Kashmir a drug-free society. Citizens are urged to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or illegal cultivation, which is vital for building a safer, healthier future.
J&K Police remains resolute in its zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes, continuously working to dismantle drug networks and eradicate narcotics from the region. The “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan” underscores this dedication, aiming to protect the youth and promote a society free of drugs.
