Court seeks response from ED on Aslam Wani’s bail plea

Srinagar: Patiala House Court has sought response from Enforcement Directorate by 27th November in connection with the bail plea of alleged hawala dealer, Mohammad Aslam Wani, considered a close aide of Hurriyat leader Shabir Shah.

According to the reports, Mohammad Aslam Wani has moved Patiala House Court after SC set aside all orders by which bail to an accused was denied due to stringent bail condition in money laundering cases.

The apex court had directed that such cases be remanded back to the respective courts to be heard on merits.

Earlier the court had framed charges against Muhammad Aslam Wani and Shabir Shah in the money laundering case.

The Enforcement Directorate had in September filed a charge sheet against Wani and Shah under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Wani, arrested on August 6, had reportedly confessed that he passed on hawala money amounting to Rs. 2.25 crore to Shah.

Shah was arrested on July 25 on charges of money laundering in a case dating back to 2005 when the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Wani.
