Srinagar: Over a year after the authorities banned the stone quarry activities in Pantha Chowk here, the government on Monday said that the project to develop smarty city in the summer capital, Srinagar is at a juvenile stage.
Talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, SMC Commissioner, Riyaz Ahmad Wani said that no funds have been released so far regarding the developing of smart city.
“The project to develop smart city is in the initial stage,” he said.
He said that the funds will be released later but the project is still at a nascent stage.
Earlier, the government in previous year banned the stone quarry activities at Pantha Chowk here, claiming to develop the smart city in Srinagar.
In June this year, the state’s twin capitals Srinagar and Jammu figured in the list of cities to be developed as “smart cities.”
The announcement was made by Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu at New Delhi on the second anniversary of launch of ‘Smart Cities Mission’ on June 23, this year.
