Militant killed in Tral encounter

Srinagar: A local militant was killed in a gun fight with government forces in Tral area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Monday.

The gun fight started between militants and government forces during the afternoon in Chopan Mohalla, seer area of Tral when militants hiding in the area fired upon the forces, which has cordoned the area on specific information about presence of militants there, officials said.

They said in the ensuing fire fight a militant identified as Adil Hamid Chopan, son of Abdul Hamid Chopan, a resident of Laru Jabgir falling under police station Tral, was killed.

The troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group of local police and Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) were involved in the search operation.

Adil is believed to have been active since March 2017.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation was started by government forces in over half a dozen villages of Shopian district of South Kashmir. The operation was started after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area, police sources said.

They said that 62 RR, 14th Bn CRPF and men from the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the police cordoned off more than half dozen villages including Amshipora, Chitterpora, Ramnagri, Shamshipora, Nowgam and adjacent areas after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

As per sources, the siege in the area was strictly enforced by a heavy presence of troops after specific intelligence inputs saying that some heavily armed militants have been seen roaming in the area.

Sources added that door to door search operation was carried out in many villages. However, the operation ended peacefully. 

Pertinently, the same kind of search operation were launched on May 4, August 19, August 28,  September 5 and November 09 this year, however all these operation  ended peacefully.
