BJP’s policies in JK have proved an utter failure: Congress

Srinagar: While expressing serious concern over the unabated cycle of violence which is consuming precious lives day in and day out, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga today said that BJP-led Center Government’s policies in the state have proved an utter failure.

In a statement issued to press here, he said, “Whether a security personnel, a civilian or a militant is killed, it is a human life which is lost. The cycle of death and injuries continues unabated in the Valley. For how long this will continue? Kashmir’s security situation has deteriorated from bad to worse in last one and half years but there is no sign of accountability from Modi led Government.”

“The rising toll of casualties this year is alarming and has the potential to deteriorate the situation further, if the right steps are not taken by the Central and the State Governments immediately. Given the rising toll of casualties and no visible efforts by New Delhi to engage stakeholders in a meaningful dialogue, people are worried about the possibility of a breakout of another deadly spell of violence,” Monga said.

“Government time and again says that this number and that number of militants have been killed. But in this, they forget how many security personnel and civilians also lose their lives. Violence is no solution,” he said.

The Congress leader said despite Center’s decision to appoint Dineshwar Sharma as ‘special representative’ on Kashmir, the interlocution process has been surrounded by confusion.

“Different ministers gave different statements and Central Government has not stated anything about his mandate. The Centre has to be very serious about the process and make public what kind of mandate has been given to Sharma. After his visit to the state earlier this month, it seems the process has failed,” he said.

Monga said if centre wants to have result-oriented negotiations, it needs to be very serious. “The interlocution process is a half hearted efforts of GoI,” he said and advised Sharma to do a proper homework about whom to meet and how to approach them.
