Yasin Malik arrested, Mirwaiz put under house arrest

Srinagar: Following the killing of a top militant commander Mugees Ahmad Mir  in a shootout in Zakura area on the outskirts of Srinagar city on Friday, authorities today arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik while Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest late last night.

According to reports, Malik was arrested from his residence and shifted to central jail Srinagar while as Mirwaiz, according to a spokesman of the outfit, was placed under house detention around 10 pm.

A Sub-Inspector of Police and militant commander Mugees Ahmad Mir from Parimpora were killed in a gunfight between the police and militants in the outskirts of Srinagar yesterday.

I wake of the killing, authorities have  imposed restrictions in Srinagar  to maintain law and order.

“District Magistrate Srinagar has imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPc in Parimpora, Safa Kadal, M.R.Gunj, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas,” the police said.

All schools and colleges in the city were closed for the day. Classes at the Kashmir University were suspended.

Train services were also suspended.
