Jammu: The Communist Party India (M), Friday demanded the State government to establish a Degree College for Katra.

In a statement issued here, Sham Prasad Kesar, Regional Secretary CPI(M), Jammu said Katra being an important pilgrimage tourist place known world-wide, deserves to be prioritized for establishing of Degree College.

“The state government must take urgent steps in this regard and issue orders for establishing of Degree College in the town premises itself, ” the statement said.

Prasad further said that Katra town is a centrally located place, as such, ideal for establishment of a Degree College, which will cater the educational needs of the students hailing from far flung locations of the area.  Besides, there are also many higher secondary schools in the area, the huge number of pass-outs of these institutions have to travel to far off places like Udhampur and Reasi to pursue their graduation level courses.

Kesar demanded that in view of the large public interest involved in the case, the state government must come up with firm decision to approve and establish a Degree College in the historical town to cater educational needs of thousands of students of the area.
