Livestock sector potent to transform socio-economic profile: DDC

Pulwama: DDC Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar today said that animal husbandry and dairying can be a game changer in enhancing the economy of the State, adding it has potential to transform the socio-economic development of the State. He was speaking  at a function organized by Department of Animal husbandry here today .

The function was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Showkat Ahmad Rather, Joint Director Planning, Chief Animal Husbandry officer, Block Veterinary Officers of the district and other officers and officials of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the agro-climatic conditions of the State are favorable for growth of animal sector and can compete with European countries which have same climates.

He further said that dairying has a potential to generate an additional income for the rural people and its contribution to the state’s income can be invaluable.

He further added that the Department of Animal Husbandry should emphasize on enhancement of productivity to increase domestic production and in this regard the need of hour is to strive for genetic up-gradation with focus on veterinary healthcare besides organizing commercial sheep and dairying farming.

At the outset of the function, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer gave the brief profile of the department and highlighted its role and achievements. It was given that the district has been number one in milk production and is self sufficient in poultry. It was also given that the because of the sustained efforts by the department, a perceptible change is being seen among the people with regard to dairying which in turn is boosting self-employment and entrepreneurship in animal husbandry sector.
