India’s claims about democracy ‘absurd’: Malik

Srinagar: Terming the claims made by India of being the biggest democracy in the world as ‘bogus and absurd’, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik Friday said that India is the only democratic country, which is suppressing the voice of dissent by military might and is suppressing Kashmiri nation’s aspirations of freedom by bullets, pellets and incarcerations.

Addressing people at Masjid Bilal (the bund), Malik as per the statement issued here said this is only the biggest democracy that is putting people in jails and that too on concocted false charges and is prolonging the incarcerations of people by using PSA like black laws.

“Thousands of Kashmir’s are languishing in jails and common people are being subjected to worst oppression and torture,” he said.

Malik said that how can Indians and the local government claim they are a democracy.

“Can they claim to be democratic after slapping 36th consecutive PSA on Masrat Alam Bhat who is in jail since 2010,” Malik said.

He said that because black laws and oppressive measures were not able to suppress the resistance of Kashmiris, Indian rulers with the active help of local government started NIA terrorism and incarcerated many including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saif- u-ullah, Raja Meraj- u- Din Kalwal, Shahid- ul- Islam, Nayem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Kamran Yousuf, Javid Ahmad and Shahid Yousuf  in Tihar Jail.
