Erratic power supply irks Pulwama villagers

Pulwama: With the onset of winters in Kashmir, the erratic power cuts have become a perennial problem in several areas in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The residents of several Pulwama areas including Wasoora, Palpora, Yader, Wahipora, Nawnagri, Chandgam, Tahab, Malpora and its adjacent areas have alleged that the Power Development Department (PDD) is forcing them to reel under darkness by not providing adequate electricity to them.

They added that they are paying hefty amount as electric charges to the department but they do not get the required electricity supply.

Inhabitants said that they are facing immense hardships due to the erratic power supply.

Threatening to stop paying the electric charges, the residents appealed government to ensure the scheduled power supply to the consumers. “In case they will fail to provide adequate power supply, they will not pay the bills in future,” they said.

The erratic power supply as per the locals has taken toll on the students as well.

A group of students said, “Electricity in their areas is playing hide and seek, because of which we are not able to prepare ourselves for the exams.”

They demanded that the government should ensure the power supply as per schedule especially in evening and morning hours.

Residents of Wasoora alleged that their transformer has developed a technical snag due to the low capacity of the transformers as compared to the load it has to bear.

“We are continuously pleading before the higher ups in this regard while the authorities assured us to redress our grievance but the promises done by the authorities proved hoax,” they said.

Exen PDD Pulwama, Nisar Ahmed told Kashmir Vision that the grievance of the residents is genuine as this area is very far away from the receiving station but now a new grid station will be established in Chandigam village of the area, which will hopefully solve the issue.
