Notorious drug peddler arrested

Kupwara: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered 3.5 kgs of Charas from his possession.

Police officials informed reporters that based on a specific information, the special team of District Police Kupwara has achieved another success by arresting a notorious drug peddler and recovered 3.5 kgs of Charas from his possession.                           

Addressing a presser, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain said that based on a specific input, special Naka was laid at Surigam Crossing and a drug peddler with 3.5 kgs of Charas was arrested.

“The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Latief Chohan S/o Jalal-u-din Chohan R/o Surigam Lolab. Case FIR No. 61/2017 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Sogam and investigation is in progress,” he said.

He further added that during the special drive against drug peddlers, the Special team of District Police Kupwara has achieved major success by arresting 35 accused persons involved in drug peddling and narcotic smugglers. These including four cross LoC narcotic smugglers and cases under various sections of NDPS Acts has been registered against them.

So far, 19 Kgs of Charas, 2 Kgs of Heroine, 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, huge quantity of codeine and huge quantities of capsule proxovan have been recovered from the possession of arrested accused persons.

People of the Kupwara have eulogized the role of Police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances with according to locals are adversely affecting and ruining the future of the youth of the area.

SSP Kupwara said that Police under patronage of DGP J&K S.P. Vaid, is committed to eradicate the drug menace from the society which is one of the commandments of J&K Police for the year 2017.

He appealed the local residents to come forward and help the police to eradicate this menace from the society.
