Woman booked in ‘braid chopping case’ as police crackdown continues

Srinagar: Continuing its operations against trouble mongers, Police arrested five persons including a ‘mentally disturbed’ woman from the capital city of the state.

According to the police, a woman undergoing psychiatric treatment has been booked after she alleged braid chopping for third time in a fortnight in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

Bilkis, wife of Abdul Rashid Sheikh, resident of Bonpora Batmaloo alleged that her hair has been chopped inside her house at 1500 hrs following which police party visited the house and upon investigation found that the lady is suffering from hysteria and psychiatric disorder.

“She has alleged braid chopping for 3rd time within a fortnight. Last time also she went to the SMHS Hospital, where the doctors advised her to consult psychiatric specialist, but instead of consulting the doctor she just left the hospital. She and her husband refused to depose or cooperate with the investigating agency,” a police official was quoted as saying by a local news agency.

Meanwhile, as the news of the braid chopping spread in the area, some people blocked the Mominabad road and resorted to stone pelting on the vehicles.

 “Later they were dispersed by the police,” police said.

Police said that the woman is a clear case of hysteria and suffers from psychiatric disorder, which requires medical attention.

“She is taking anti depression drugs and we have collected her previous prescription,” a police official said, adding that the woman is also having some familial issues.

Police has registered a case and filed an FIR into the incident.

“For this incident FIR 173/2017 under relevant sections of law registered against the lady and persons who indulged in stone pelting and disturbing peace and tranquility of the area,” police added.

Meanwhile, Police Station Soura claimed to have arrested four miscreants involved in inciting law and order problem.

“These miscreants are from Soura, Lal Bazar and Zakura areas,” a spokesman of police said.

“In the garb of braid chopping chaos, these trouble mongers, incite mob and were also involved in creating disturbances in the area” the spokesman added.

A case FIR No 86/2017 under sections 147,148,149,336,307,427 RPC was registered against them at Police Station Soura.

On their disclosure, more trouble mongers have been identified and they will be shortly arrested, police said.

Police has requested general public not to pay heed to rumours spread by rumour mongers adding that strict action will be taken against rumour mongers and trouble mongers.
