Clashes in Bandipora during cordon and search operation

Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Bandipora during Cordon and Search operation after government forces fired teargas shells on protesters.

Official sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Kochak and Parray Mohallas in Bandipora on Tuesday morning.
However, during the searches, people outside hit the streets and started shouting slogans and pelting stones.
Additional security forces deployed in the area immediately swung into action and prevented the demonstrators going towards the cordoned off ‘mohallas’.
As the demonstrators refused to disperse and continued stone pelting, security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to prevent them from moving towards the area.
