Altaf Bukhari lauds progress of Cluster University Srinagar

 

Srinagar: The Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Tuesday said that Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) has shown commendable progress since its inception and lauded the efforts of its faculty and administration for their dedication towards work.

He said that 7000 students which have been enrolled in CUS in the first year is a great start for any new university.

The Minister, who is also the pro-chancellor of varsity, was speaking at the valedictory function of maiden sports festival of CUS held at Government College for Women Srinagar. Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi and Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asghar Hassan Samoon were also present on the occasion as special guests.

During the sports festival students from all the constituent colleges of CUS which includes S.P College, M.A Road, Amar Singh College, Wazir Bagh, Government College for Women, M.A Road, Institute of Advanced Studies, M.A Road and Abdul Ahad Azad College, Bemina participated in Badminton, Table Tennis, Kho-Kho, VolleyBall, Tug of Wars, Cricket, Kabadi and other sports categories.

On the occasion, Bukhari distributed trophies and medals among the winning and runner-up teams. In boys’ category, Amar Singh College emerged victorious in Badminton, Table Tennis, Volley Ball and Cricket while as Abdul Ahad Azad College emerged victorious in Kabbadi and

In the girls category, Government College for Women emerged victorious in five out of six games. They won Badminton, Table Tennis, VolleyBall, Tug of Wars and Cricket while as S.P College emerged winner in Kho-Kho.

The Minister also interacted with the student and advised them to keep their studies on the top priority and take an active part in extracurricular activities.

 “This is the time when you should enjoy your life to the fullest,” Bukhari told students.

Speaking on the occasion, Priya Sethi said that young people constitute the 50 percent of country’s total population and added that younger generation is the future of this country.

 “We feel proud when we see our children excelling in various fields including academics as well as sports at national and international levels,” said Priya Sethi. She added that sports inculcate leadership qualities and sportsmanship in an individual.

Besides, Vice Chancellor CUS, Sheikh Javeed Ahmad, Registrar CUS, Mohammad Yasin Shah, Principals of constituent colleges of CUS and other concerned officials of Education Department and students were present on the occasion.
