Kangan: The incidents of violence following braid chopping go unabated, with one mentally unsound person feeling the heat as locals beat him mercilessly at Kangan , reports said.

Reports and eyewitnesses said that a person moving “suspiciously” with a hand bag was mistaken as a braid chopper at main market Kangan and a crowd, mostly the passers-by, caught hold of him and thrashed him.

Later police rushed to the spot and protected the mentally unsound person from the clutches of the unruly mob.

The situation turned ugly when the angry mob after thrashing him pelted stones on police. Later police swung into action and lobbed teargas canisters to pacify the mobs.

A police official while confirming the incident said that the person is mentally unsound and was working in Police department.

He said that six persons were arrested for spreading false rumours over braid chopping and disturbing law and order.

He further said that people should not pay heed to rumour and take law into their own hands.

Kangan Police has registered a case under FIR no. 29/2017 under relevant section and started investigating in this matter.
