Days after union government enhanced the retirement age of central government doctors, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Sunday has sought that retirement age of doctors in Jammu and Kashmir be also raised to 65.

President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that enhancement of superannuation age of doctors will strengthen the healthcare delivery services.

Recently, union cabinet approved increase in retirement age of central government doctors to 65.

While welcoming the decision, Dr Hassan said it should be extended to JK doctors also.

“This would help utilize the services of experienced doctors for betterment of healthcare,” he said.

 Dr Hassan said it would help retain the existing skilled healthcare professionals thereby providing better patient care satisfaction.

“Also, it would help in improving the teaching standards and research in teaching hospitals.”

“Further, it would address the shortage of doctors and improve doctor-patient ratio which is lowest in JK,” he said.

Presently, the age of retirement for doctors in JK is 60 years and for faculty in teaching hospitals it is 62 years.

“Simultaneously, the government should increase the job opportunity  for young qualified doctors that will end unemployment and open doors for fresh minds with better ideas,”  said Dr Hassan
