PHE fails to supply water to Southern villages

In times of governance at doorsteps, the villages in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district are sans the basic facility of drinking water with women folk walking miles to fetch water to quench thirst and to cook food.

The areas in the district including Nagbal, Kralwani Kokernag (Gujjarbasti) are sans the basic facility of drinking water, which has left hundreds of families disillusioned.

Inhabitants of these areas expressed resentment against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide potable water supply to them.

They told Kashmir Vision that the PHE department has failed to provide water supply to them.

Villagers said that the official apathy has resulted in immense hardships to them. “People especially the women are being forced to walk miles to fetch the water,” they said, adding that the authorities are ignoring the plights of more than hundred families living in this hamlet.

“Time and again, the authorities of PHE department were informed but unfortunately no to avail,” they said, adding that the AEE PHE Kokernag, JEs and field staff hardly bother to visit this area.

Exen PHE Bijbehara, Bashir Ahmad told Kashmir Vision that he will direct AEE and other concerned officials to visit the area to redress the genuine grievances of people.

MLA Kokernag, Abdul Rahim Rather also assured that he will take up the matter with the PHE authorities on priority and the grievances of the locals will be redressed soon.
