Mirwaiz barred to address Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

Terming the continuous house detention of Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as ‘political vendetta’ of the government, the amalgam on Friday stated that Mirwaiz was once again prevented from addressing the Friday congregation and prayers at historical Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

The spokesman according to the statement issued here said that in these days of historical importance in Islamic calendar in which the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and the tragedy of Karbala was taken place, Mirwaiz in his address was going to throw light on the historic event and the lessons it has for the Muslims and the entire humanity.

“Mirwaiz being the religious leader has certain responsibilities and his continuous house detention severely affects the social activities in the downtown in particular and other areas of Kashmir in general,” he said.

He said that as per the decades’ old practice, Mirwaiz is scheduled to address the religious gathering at Alam Sahab (RA) at Narawara on 10th Muharram (Sunday) wherein he will pay tributes to Imam Hussain (AS) and his contributions towards Islam besides throwing light on the entire episode of Karbala.

Meanwhile, the spokesman also condemned the arrest of senior APHC leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza yet again terming it ‘highhandedness’ and said that lodging Waza frequently in police station reflects the dictorial mindset of the ruling class.
