Sopore shuts for 2nd consecutive day to mourn Najar’s death

A complete shutdown was Thursday observed in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on the second consecutive day to mourn the killing of a top Hizb commander, Qayoom Najar who was killed in Uri sector near Line of Control on Tuesday.

All business establishments and shops remained closed while the traffic was also thin on the roads.

Meanwhile, Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed at many parts of the town including main Chowk, Tehsil road, Shah Dargah Chowk, Ashpeer crossing and Chankhan Chowk to maintain law and order incidents.

However, authorities had decided to suspended the class work in all the educational institutes from primary schools to Degree Colleges in Sopore on Thursday, following the killing of a top militant commander, Qayoom Najar.

Officials said the precautionary steps were taken on the second consecutive day in Sopore to avoid law-and-order incidents in the town.
