Hurriyat Conference (M) on Thursday denounced the fresh house detention of the chairman of the amalgam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
The spokesman according to the statement issued here said that the blanket ban on the movement of Mirwaiz and barring him from carrying out his social, religious and political activities reflects the ‘political vendetta’ of the ruling class.
He said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a seminar for paying pay rich tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who achieved martyrdom in Karbala. However, a contingent of police reached the residence of Mirwaiz at Nigeen and didn’t allow him to come out of his residence.
Meanwhile, the spokesman expressed serious concern over the plight of Kashmiris lodged in various jails, prisons and interrogation centres in J&K and outside stating that many prisoners are languishing in prisons without any trial and many of them have developed serious health complications in absence of proper medical aid, which is a serious concern.
He said depriving the prisoners from the basic facility of health care is a blatant violation of basic principles of humanity and also direct violation of Geneva Convention declaration.
The spokesman said that there are hundreds of prisoners whose detention orders have been quashed by the various courts but who are still lodged in various jails in State and outside.
He urged all the international organisations, human rights organisations including International Red Cross and Amnesty International to take notice and ensure all the prisoners belonging to J&K given proper facilities during custody and are set free without any pre-condition.
The spokesman termed all the Kashmiri inmates as “prisoners of conscience” stating that all of them deserve a big salute for their patience and courage.
