JKSPCB conducts public hearing for 800MW Bursar HEP

Jammu & Kashmir State Pollution Control Board(JKSPCB) today conducted another public hearing in connection with the Environmental Clearance of Bursar Hydro Electricity Project (HEP).

The 800 MW project is to be constructed by NHPC Ltd on river Marusudar at village Lopara Tehsil Dachhan of district Kishtwar.

A large number of people to be affected by the Project were present at the hearing held under the chairmanship of Additional District Commissioner Kishtwar Kishori Lal Sharma.

Analysts, scientists from various organisations of the state made the general public aware about the importance of public hearing and role of Pollution Control Board for conducting such hearing as per Environment Impact Assessment Notification of MOEF, Govt of India 2006.

They said the motive of holding the hearing was to seek the opinion of the people to be affected by the Project construction, listen their issues and clear doubts.

 Issues raised by the locals with regard to acquisition of land, local employment generation were recorded on video for the observation and examination by the panel of experts of MOEF Government of India.

General Manager NHPC, PK Langer clarified the quarries on different aspects of the project raised by the public.

 The speakers also briefed the audience with regard to the Environment Management Plan (EMP) including Rehabilitation and Resettlement Plan for the affected people.

Additional District Magistrate appealed the locals to extend their cooperation in the construction of the project. He assured them that their genuine issues shall be addressed in an amicable manner by the authorities concerned.

Divisional Officer, SPCB Kishtwar, Doda Mukesh Singh Bali, presented the vote of thanks.
