Mysterious braid chopping incidents create panic in Southern districts

 

Panic has gripped the Southern districts of Kashmir Valley after 13 mysterious incidents of braid chopping occurred in different areas especially in Kulgam district. The incidents have left the people so terrified that the Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

Locals said that at least 13 incidents of braid chopping took place at different places while most of them occured within the four walls of residential houses.

During the intervening night of September 25, a mysterious braid chopping incident was reported from Magraypora, Kanganhall in Achabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A 14 year old girl, who is a student of a middle school, was reportedly sleeping in her room at around 2 am in the night when she felt that someone was pulling her hair.

She woke up immediately to resist but found her hair chopped off, sources said.

On Sunday evening, Sunaina (name changed), a resident of Asmuji was at her home in Kulgam village when ‘unknown persons’ chopped off her hair.

Sunaina, who is  a student of 1st year in Degree College Kulgam was at her home at around 9: 30 pm when she fell down unconscious and when she woke up she found her braid chopped off.

With Sunaina and the latest teenaged victim, the toll of the mysterious braid chopping incidents has reached to 13.

The family of the victim demanded authorities to take immediate steps to trace the involved persons.

“Many girls have so far become the victim of braid chopping. We appeal the higher ups to look into the matter as such incidents have created panic among the locals here,” they told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

In view of increasing incidents of braid chopping in the district, the authorities have taken serious note to curb this tendency.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kulgam has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the braid chopping incidents on fast track basis and bring the culprits to book.

The Police appealed the people to come forward to help them in speedy investigation.

“A phone number 7051510660 shall remain functional at PCR Kulgam 24×7 for informing police about such matters,” police said, adding that people are advised to immediately inform police about any such incident.

At the same time, general public is requested not to pay heed to rumours being floated by anti social elements, a police official said.

“Police is committed to provide safe and secure environment to the citizens of the district,” he said.
