Curbing old city reflects ‘dictatorial approach’ of Govt: Hurriyat (M)

Hurriyat Conference (M) Monday condemned the curfew and curbs in Old City Srinagar.

The spokesman according to the statement issued here said that these tactics by the government reflect its ‘dictatorial approach’ towards the people of Kashmir.

He said that the old city is targeted every time any incident happens anywhere in Kashmir.

The spokesman said that by raising the bogey of maintaining law and order the whole population of the Old City is repeatedly made hostage in their own homes by imposing curfews.

He said that the restrictions in Old City create immense trouble for the people including students and patients of the area and is part of the policy of government’s ‘revenge’ against these people.

The spokesman said that heavy deployment of forces around central Jamia Masjid on Fridays is a major cause of concern for the people in the area and leads to creation of tension. The spokesman said that authorities should withdraw the forces from there.

He said that the aggressive tactics by the government, curfew, restrictions, and atrocities can’t suppress the people for raising their voice of justice and demands of basic political right.

The spokesman said it has become a policy of the government to harass people and create problems for them on one pretext or other.
