Commuters suffer as Govt fails to macadamize vital road in Ganderbal

Inhabitants of Ganderbal have expressed resentment against the Roads and Building (R&B) Department for failing to repair the potholed Saloora –Duderhama road in the district.

The residents while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that the dilapidated road in the area has resulted in immense hardship to them especially, commuters.

Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plights, the residents, as well as the commuters here, demanded immediate redressal of the genuine grievances.

The locals also threatened to stage protest in case the grievances will be redressed.

“We will take to streets against the administration in case it fails to redress the genuine grievances of the people,” they added.

They said that despite being an important road, Saloora –Duderhama has been neglected by the authorities.

The road has developed several potholes, which are taking a toll on the travelers.

“The main road which connects our area with district headquarter is in shambles. The officials are not directing the contractors to expedite the construction work on this road,” they said.

“We have time and again apprised the authorities about the condition of the roads but unfortunately no to avail,” said, a local.

Meanwhile, Patron of the Awami Itehaad Party (AIP), Sheikh G A Saloora, who hails from the same area told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the successive regimes have failed to maintain the said road.

He appealed the R&B department to take measures so that the road is developed and the people can heave a sigh of relief.

AEE, R&B division Ganderbal, Irfan Ahmad, when contacted said that the work on the road will be started soon. “The process has already been started and the work will be started soon,” he said.
