Minors must not be treated like criminal: Rajnath

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday that minors will be treated in accordance with the Juvenile Act and not like criminals.

“Kids below the age of 18 will be treated in accordance with the Juvenile Act and not like criminals”. Rajnath said during a press conference in Srinagar.

Home Minister said that during security review meeting he suggested to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to personally watch over the issue of Juvenile Justice system in the state.

“…kids below the age of 18 should not be treated like criminals, whatever investigation needs to be done it must be in accordance with the Juvenile act. They must not be sent to prison, must be sent to juvenile homes,” Rajnath Singh said.
