Kulgam encounter aftermath: Clashes erupt in Anantnag, internet services snapped

 

Following the killing of two local militants in south Kashmir town of Anantnag, clashes have erupted in Lalchowk and Reshi Bazar areas of the town, sources said.

According to sources,  youth pelted stones on police and other forces deployed in the area, who retaliated with tear smoke shelling triggering clashes.

Two militants, Dawood Ahmad Illahi of Hawora Kulgam and Sayar Ahmad Wani of Wanpora Kulgam were killed in a gunfight in Khudwani area of Kulgam district early today.

According to police an OGW of militants identified as Arif Sofi was also arrested during the gunfight.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been suspended in Kulgam and Anantnag districts after the militant killings. Class work in all educational institutions in Kulgam, Khudwani, Bijebehara and Anantnag area has been suspended by the authorities as a precautionary measure.
