After Jammu and Kashmir police constable Rayees Ahmad Sheikh posted his video on social media announcing his resignation, the authorities yesterday detained him to check “what forced him to do so”.
“He had uploaded the video on Facebook. The department will take disciplinary action against him,” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range, Munir Khan told ‘Kashmir Vision’.
“He has not given a written resignation and we don’t consider Facebook or What’s app an official document,” the Kashmir Police Chief said.
On 4 September, Shiekh posted a video on social media announcing his resigning from his police where he is serving as a constable.
“My conscience would also question me if it is right for me to see the streams of blood that are flowing here. I had no answer to this question then, nor do I have now. But this question has continued to pinch me inside,” Sheikh purportedly said in his video message. “I have now found a solution to my problem. I have decided to leave police so that my conscience doesn’t question me again,” he said in the video.
“An inquiry will be conducted under police act for this in-disciplinary act,” Khan said.
According to the sources in the police, Sheikh is in police custody and the police is investigating the cause of his posting the video.
Sheikh was on the Eid leave when he posted his video and hasn’t reported back to the duty in Bandipora police station till now.
