A Lashkar-e-Tioba militant was killed in a brief encounter with police and security forces in a Kulgam village.
Police and army had cordoned Tantray Pora village in Kulgam where the encounter took place.
“One militant killed in a gun battle at #Kulgam,” DIG South Kashmir tweeted.
The militant has been identified as Ishfaq Paddar, a local operative of the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Army said they recovered an AK 47 from, the deceased militant.
It was not immediately known if the encounter took place in a house or outside in the fields.
Padder’s killing came within hours after the Lashkar mounted an attack on a police patrol killing a head constable Kishen Lal in Panthachowk area of Srinagar.
