Rural development key for the growth of state’s economy: Kavinder

Speaker, Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta emphasized on rural development for improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas. He said rural development holds the key for the growth of state’s economy and stressed on infrastructural growth for the overall development of these areas.

Speaking during inauguration of newly constructed Link Road at Khwas Khan village, Speaker stressed on regular quality checks of the roads at both pre and post construction stages to ensure adherence to quality standards. He said that construction of roads should be seen in the larger context of socio-economic impact that it brings on the rural economy.

Underscoring the importance of connecting remote areas, Speaker said up gradation of existing roads will provide market access for various economic and social services which will not only help in the development of rural areas but will also supplement rural livelihood.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Speaker called for effective monitoring of the rural development schemes launched by the centre as well as the state government to improve quality of life in rural India and to reach out to people of far flung areas.

 He said the government is making all the efforts for rural development with regard to power, irrigation, roads, drinking water, housing, employment and road connectivity.

Speaker said that to improve quality of life for the rural population especially those below the poverty line, proper implementation of wide spectrum of programmes is required as these holistic schemes aim at poverty alleviation, employment generation, infrastructure development and social security.

 Kavinder said that government is keen to provide livelihood opportunities to those in need including women and other vulnerable sections with special focus on Below Poverty Line (BPL) households.

He said that government has launched many schemes for providing urban amenities in rural areas with formulation, development and implementation of programmes relating to various spheres of rural life and activities, from income generation to environmental replenishment besides promoting involvement of voluntary agencies and individuals for rural development.

On being apprised of the problems and developmental needs of the area, the Speaker assured locals that all their genuine concerns will be looked into on priority and directed the concerned officials to take adequate measures to mitigate the problems of the people in a time bound manner.
