Freedom Party demands release of prisoners ahead of Eid

Demanding release of prisoners ahead of Eid ul Azha, the Democratic Freedom Party on Monday said it has been a tradition among civilised nations to release prisoners on festive occasions so that they spend such blissful time with their families and loved ones.

A DFP spokesperson in a statement issued here said, “We are conscious about the fact that the prisoners are living life far away from their loved ones and believe that the system which is persecuting them is devoid of any humanity.”

He termed it unfortunate that the human rights organisations across the world have maintained unsympathetic attitude vis a vis the plight of Kashmiri prisoners. “Thousands of families are living a life of misery,” he said.

The spokesperson said the Democratic Freedom Party believes that Kashmir dispute has to be resolved as per UN resolutions or through tripartite dialogue process. He reiterated party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah’s stand that the delay in resolving this longstanding dispute will endanger peace in subcontinent.

“New Delhi should take initiatives in this regard and realise that its stubborn attitude is the main reason for instability in the subcontinent and has snatched peace of millions of people in the region. Such policy of violence is never in India’s favour,” he said.

The spokesperson added, “We want to make it clear to Indian intellectual class and people that we dont want to snatch any part of India but demand referendum in the state.”

On attempt to abrogate the Article 35A, the spokesperson said some collaborators in the state at the behest of Delhi are hell bent on changing the demography of J&K. “We will never let it happen and will fight any conspiracy tooth and nail,” he said.
