Govt keen to promote Agri business to boost economy: Minister

 

Inaugurates renovated office building, meeting hall of CADP at Lal Mandi

SRINAGAR: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today said that State Government is keen to promote Agri Business in the state for boosting agriculture production and economy.

The Minister was interacting with senior officers of Agriculture department after inaugurating the renovated office building of Command Area Development Programme (CADP) and meeting hall at Lal Mandi Srinagar that were damaged in 2014 Floods.

The Minister said that command area Development programme should play a pivotal role in introducing high technology agriculture machinery to farmers with the objective to boost crop production and improve quality of agriculture operations.

The Minister also said that CADP can bridge the gap between the Irrigation potential and utilization through micro level infrastructure development and efficient farm water management to enhance agricultural production and productivity.

The Agriculture Minister said that 2014 flood caused extensive damage to Agriculture sector. He said that infrastructure of Command Area Development Programme was also damaged and it was top priority of state government to reconstruct the damaged property of agriculture department.

Under Prime Ministers development package, Rs 28.48 lakh were utilized for maintenance of office building of Command Area Development Programme and Meeting Hall at Lal Mandi. Besides Rs 2.46 lakh were utilized for installation of Audio Video System and other machinery equipment for the meeting hall.           

On the occasion, the Minister directed field functionaries to reach out to the farmers to spread awareness regarding various welfare schemes meant for farmers and educate them about the modern crop production technologies.

Agriculture Minister said that mission of the Agriculture Department is to improve the overall environment and beautification of the agriculture sector.

He said under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is committed for development in all three regions of the State. He said concerted efforts are being made to fulfill aspirations of the people, as the coalition government has initiated several developmental programmes in the State.

Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department, Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Secretary Agriculture, Showkat Ahmad Beg, Director Command Area Development, Kashmir, Itrat Hussain Rafiqi, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi and other senior officers of the Agriculture Department were present on the occasion.
