Clashes erupted between youth and forces outside Jamia Masjid area of Nowhatta in Srinagar after congregational Friday prayers.

According to the sources, police and paramilitary forces personnel were heavily deployed outside the Jamia Masjid in strength.

The sources said that soon after the Friday prayers were over, people assembled outside the Masjid and started protesting against the scrapping of article 35-A and recent killings.

Police stopped the protesters, triggering clashes. Police used teargas shells to disperse the protesting youth, they said.

Clashes were going on in the area when reports last came in.
