Slain militants laid to rest in Kulgam, Shopian

 

Three militants of Kulgam and Shopian who were killed in an encounter with government forces at Awneera village of Zainapora tehsil in south Kashmir’s Shopian district were laid to rest at their native villages.

Three militants including the operational commander of Hizbul-Mujahideen were killed in 16-hour long encounter in Awneera. The encounter started yesterday in pre-dusk hours and ended today in the noon.

Umar Majid @Usman was laid to rest at his native village Kath Pora in Yaripora Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Eyewitnesses said that four back to back rounds of funeral prayers were held in Kath Pora before he was laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Eyewitnesses added that thousands of people, who thronged there from different parts of the district participated in the funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, Irfan Sheikh of Maldera Zainapora Shopian was also laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Maldera Shopian amid pro-freedom, pro-militant, pro-Pakistani and anti-India slogans.

Eyewitnesses said that three rounds of funeral prayers were held at Maldera Shopian before Irfan was laid to rest with tearful eyes.

Eyewitnesses added that a group of militants appeared in the funeral of Irfaan and offered gun salutes to their colleague, who was active from last two years.

Eyewitnesses added that thousands of people including women and children took part in the funeral prayers of slain militant
