Welcoming the meeting between NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over Article 35-A, Awami Itehad Party (AIP) President Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh Wednesday appealed both the leaders to rise to the occasion and show consistency in order to make the efforts from all quarters result oriented.
“Though the step (meeting between Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti) is too little too late but in an atmosphere of distrust and conspiracies, it could become a good beginning for a larger reconciliation and unanimity among political class to fulfil the genuine aspirations and sentiments of people,” he said according to the statement issued here.
However, MLA Langate said that such efforts may yield nothing unless resistance leadership, civil society, traders and people of Jammu and Ladakh region are not also involved in the common minimum programme.
“To develop a broader consensus over the issue AIP will try to facilitate in getting all the stake holders together for discussing the strategy,” he said.
He said that in this regard party will host a round table discussion in Srinagar on Sunday (Aug 13). “All the major political parties including those from resistance camp will be requested to put forward their views,” he said.
