Article 35A bridges the gap within opposition

Asserting that the Article 35-A should not be abrogated, Member of Parliament (MP) and National Conference (NC), patron Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that there will be a strong revolt in case the state subject law is abrogated.

Pertinently, the NC patron had called for All Party Meeting today to discuss the issue of Article 35-A and its implications on the state.

The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president G A Mir, CPI (M) senor leader and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president Hakeem Yaseen, Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president G H Mir and other senior leaders of NC, Congress.

After chairing the meeting, NC patron said that the abrogation of state subject law would create an uprising stronger than the Amarnath Land row.

Talking to reporters, Dr Farooq said that calling All Party meeting was aimed to discuss the issues of Article 35-A and its implications on the state, which was very important for all the three regions including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

“We called the meeting to make people aware as to why we are against its abrogation, which gives us the basic right and scrapping it will take away that basic right from us,” he said, adding that in case the law will be scrapped, people will jointly oppose it tooth and nail.

He further said that this law shouldn’t be eroded as such move would create a harsh situation in Kashmir, which would be worse than Amarnath Land row, on which people rose overnight.

“We (opposition) will form a united front to create awareness among the people about the implication of the article. We have decided to take the issue to the people as a united front. All parties in Jammu, Kashmir or Ladakh will try to make people understand effect of abrogation of the Article on the state. Abrogating article will affect all the people. We will go before the people and create awareness among them about its impact. People are the masters,” he said.

The NC patron further said that the agenda of BJP and RSS is to erode special status of the state.

“Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has earlier made a statement that she will quit in case the special status of the state will be infringed. I hope she will stand by her statement,” he said, adding that she must go to every region of the state to explain the fallout of abrogating the Article.

“She (Mehbooba Mufti) should make people aware because she has facilities to travel by air to reach to tell people and I think she does it,” he said.

Meanwhile, JKPCC chief G A Mir while speaking on the occasion said that the people who are not politically aware don’t know about the Article 35-A. “We will initiate an awareness movement in this regard to aware the people about the scrapping or non-scrapping of Article 35-A. We need to educate people first,” he said.

He said that they will aware the people on party level and the collectively as well as the people must get aware in this regard.

“The opposition will reach out to all the democratic voices in the country for the protection of the identity of the state,” he said, adding that they won’t allow the government to infringe upon the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
