CUK chancellor visits varsity campuses, interacts with faculty, students, staff

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Chancellor, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee today visited different campuses of the varsity and held detailed interactions and threadbare discussions with the faculty, administrative staff, research scholars and class representatives, about the overall functioning of the university.

Flanked by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Haji, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Deans of different Schools, Heads and Coordinators of different departments, Dr. Banerjee, suggested several necessary measures and steps to further improve the academics, administrative affairs, financial matters and other issues related to the working of the university.

Dr. Srikumar Banerjee first visited the Central Library and Browsing Centre and received the information from the concerned officials about the number of books, journals e-resources and other reading material available in the library. He asked the officials to fully upgrade and update the library facilities with latest and interesting books, magazines and other study material so that it attracts more and more students and research scholars.

During his interaction with the Deans, Heads, Coordinators, faculty members and nodal officers of the Skill Courses, of the university, Dr. Banerjee asked them to continuously update their knowledge and skills in their respective fields of study. “In this era of communication, the students’ compare the classroom lectures on a particular topic delivered by the faculty members with the same lectures delivered by teachers in other educational institutions on the same topic across the world. By doing so they notice and point out the flaws in the lecture delivered by their teacher,” he said and asked the faculty members to remain fully abreast in their fields. He underscored the need of imparting quality education to the students saying that the students in the contemporary times have to be extremely knowledgeable and erudite in order to compete with the counterparts passing out from other educational institutions across the country and the world.  

Dr. Banerjee also asked the faculty members to hold regular meetings in their departments in order to further improve the teaching-learning process. The faculty members later raised certain issues confronting them.

The class representatives and research scholars while interacting with the Chancellor highlighted some of the problems confronting them in their academic journey at the CUK. Chancellor gave a patient hearing to the students’ grievances and directed the university administration to redress them without any further delay. He also asked the student representatives to be forthcoming vis-à-vis highlighting of the problems faced by the students’ community in the university so that immediate measures can be taken by the authorities to redress them.

During his interaction with the administrative staff of the university, the Chancellor, was given a detailed account by the Controlling Officers, about the functioning of their respective departments. The officers informed the Chancellor about their role in smooth functioning of the university. Dr. Banerjee while addressing the administrative staff asked them to work in association with the faculty members to provide better facilities to the students and research scholars. He also highlighted ways and means to improve the administrative functioning of the varsity for its overall progress.

Later on, Central University of Jammu, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ashok Aima also joined the Chancellor, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee during the interaction with the administrative staff.

Dr. Banerjee later visited the hostels in the vicinity of the university and took stock of the facilities provided by the varsity to the hostel boarders.
